I am a Registered Dietitian (RD) and have had a private nutrition counseling practice serving central Massachusetts area physicians, their patients and the general public for the past 20 years. I am licensed in the state of Massachusetts (LD). I offer personal nutritional counseling to people with food-related illnesses, and those interested in health promotion and disease prevention. My interests include nutrition, running, horseback riding, and gardening.

I have an undergraduate degree from Middlebury College in Vermont and a Master's degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from New York University. I have taken advanced training in nutrition therapy, studying the integration of theories and techniques from counseling psychology into nutrition. I have taught at the university level and offer educational seminars and workshops to businesses, schools, health clubs, home health-care agencies and the general public.

What is an R.D.?

The letters " R.D." after a person's name signify that he or she has completed at least a 4-year college degree in food science or human nutrition, after which they must have completed a minimum 900-hour internship, which trains and supervises their work in every area of dietetics and nutrition practice. They must then pass a national qualifying examination. To retain R.D. status, they must complete many

hours of continuing education to keep pace with changes in the field.

Do you know the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist? All Registered Dietitians who are providing nutritional advice are technically "nutritionists". But not all nutritionists are Registered Dietitians. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, and hang out a shingle, without meeting any education or training standards.
